  • The ATP Previews Live ELC On Clay Courts

Why It’s Interesting: The tour is going from zero to 100 in 2025. Most clay tournaments didn’t even have a challenge system in place, much less live electronic line calling. Also note: If this were implemented last year, it could have changed the Roland Garros final.

Gill’s Take: If you think this is going to end line call arguments on clay, think again. Players are not going to react well when their reading of the ball mark differs from the automated call. Matthew Willis has been saying this for years.

  • Rafa Nadal Sells ~$100M Stake In His Tennis Academy

More: Rafa sold ~45% of his Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor to investment group GPF.

  • Should The Golden Swing Change To Hard Courts?

Why It’s Interesting: The South American events are struggling to attract top players who want to play on harcourt ahead of the Sunshine Double. Santiago and Rio organizers are poised to ditch the clay, but Buenos Aires brass are not in favor.

  • Turning Shot Quality Into A Gameshow

Also Good: TennisTV had stars decide what’s IN and OUT for 2025. See here.

  • Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi Made A WTA 125 Final at 15 Years Old

  • Shapovalov Reflects on Dallas Win In Exclusive Tennis Channel Interview

Golden Quote: “With a gamestyle like mine always just when things are working it looks really good and when things aren’t working it looks like I’m tanking out there.”

  • Tennis Was Alive At Superbowl LIX (59)

Why It’s Interesting: Ben Rothenberg was on the ground covering Serena X Drake in 2015 and he provides all the context necessary for you to understand why Serena’s appearance in the halftime show was another stroke of Kendrick’s ruthless genius. This was originally in Bounces, but Slate received permission to publish it free for everyone.

  • Leaving You With Roger Federer and… Elmo

On Monday Match Analysis, Gill breaks down the two ATP 500 finals from Sunday. Denis Shapovalov capped off the best run of his career to beat Casper Ruud in the final, the Canadian's 3rd top-10 win of the week to take his biggest title. Carlos Alcaraz won his first-ever indoor title in Rotterdam, taking a competitive 3-setter against Alex De Minaur.

Hey everyone, Gill Gross here. While I’m grateful for any amount of success I’ve had talking tennis on the internet for the past half decade, I believe we should all be doing better in this sport as creators and as fans. The tennis content economy is far behind other sports by metrics of engagement and popularity. This newsletter is our effort to DRAW the great things we find in tennis every week- we search for content that teaches us, makes us think, makes us laugh and ultimately makes loving this sport the best possible experience. Our vision is to speed up the growth of a robust content economy in tennis, for the benefit of fans, players and creators alike.
